ARCHIVE
LOOK-UPS
If you have identified items that need to be looked up but you are unable to go to the archives in person, I can do this for you. I regularly visit Essex Record Office, Suffolk Archives (Bury St Edmunds branch) and Cambridgeshire Archives and can visit other archives, including Suffolk Archives (Ipswich and Lowestoft branches), Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Hertfordshire, London Metropolitan Archives, The Society of Genealogists and The National Archives.
Where archives permit, I can obtain copies of documents. Otherwise, where the document is legible and in English, I can transcribe it or summarise it.

NEWSPAPER SEARCHES
Newspapers are a rich source of information about ancestors. I can carry out newspaper searches in archives or at the British Library which I visit regularly. Articles can be copied (if the archive or copyright allows it), or I can transcribe or summarise them.

PHOTOGRAPHY
If there are memorials, graves, churches, houses or some other places of interest in Suffolk, Essex or Cambridgeshire that you would like photographed, I can take good quality images on your behalf.

Advice & Guidance

ONE-TO-ONE ADVICE
I can help start you off with your research and advise on how to build your tree. If you are new to family history, perhaps you have already done some research and you would like to learn how to build on it.
You may prefer to carry out your own research but are not sure how to find information in archives. A one-to-one advice session can help you with this by showing you where to look, how to search effectively and offer guidance on sources you might like to use.

VERIFICATION
It is often useful to have a second opinion of work to reassure yourself that your research is as accurate as possible.
I am happy to do this for you, or to check a family tree that you are unsure about, for example on Ancestry. I am also willing to carry out proof reading of articles and reports.

'BRICK WALL' DEMOLITION
If you are stuck with your research and need a second pair of eyes to look at the problem, I may be able to suggest alternative records or a way to break through the 'brick wall'.

MYTHS AND MYSTERIES
Every family has its collection of stories that have been passed through the generations and you wonder how much of them are true, or question why something you have found does not tie up with what you were told. I can help you look for the truth behind them.
