Terms and Conditions
An initial no-obligation of up to two hours and a quote for the work is free of charge.​
Before carrying out any work for you, I will confirm the project proposal and the anticipated timescale in writing to you. I will not undertake any research or take any time beyond that agreed without having discussed it and obtained permission from you.

I undertake your research based on the information you supply and cannot be held responsible or liable is it is inaccurate. You should therefore make sure that you provide me with details of any information or previous research as accurately as possible to avoid time spent searching for what you already know. If you are unable to do this, I can help by studying any information you have at my hourly rate.
My reports will include details of sources used to obtain the information. I will also provide details of the sources I inspected if any of the research is unsuccessful.
If, for any reason, research cannot progress as expected or, during the research, I find that the work will not take as long as proposed, I will refund any whole unused pre-paid research hours to you.
Similarly, if you have bought a package and I find that it is not possible to further the research for any reason, I may able to refund part of the deposit. However, this will depend on how long I have already spent on the project.

Research data will be held in confidence and I will not provide it to any third party without your written permission. If I find that any of the research required is outside of my scope, I will ask your permission to use the service of another qualified genealogist closer to the area or with the specialist knowledge. For example. this could happen if your ancestors were from an area which I am not familiar with and there is no other way of checking records.
The research report and copies of documents are for your personal and family use only. Any reports and charts produced by Kindred Lines are the copyright of Jane Jones. Reports must not be reproduced in any way for commercial purposes or uploaded to the internet, including Ancestry family trees or your personal website, without my express written permission.

I will send written research reports by special delivery postage in the UK, together with any personal information which you sent to me. Overseas clients will be informed at the time of acceptance of the work of the price of postage which will be charges accordingly.
Disclaimer
Please note that I can only carry out research where there are legible and available records. Additionally, the accuracy of records cannot be guaranteed which means that research is sometimes unsuccessful or produces results that cannot be verified. For example, this may happen when births or deaths were not registered, or where records are illegible, damaged or destroyed. There are sometimes cases of people changing their names unofficially or disappearing from records, deliberately or otherwise. Even if no results are found, the time spent on research will still be charged.

I reserve the right to decline research where there is likelihood of dispute, or where the information provided suggests there is little scope for investigation. I am not in a position to search for and contact living relative on your behalf. Any work relating to adoption of any persons who may still be living will need to be dealt with by a qualified specialist. No work relating to probate disputes or heir hunting will be undertaken. If this has not been disclosed or mentioned at the beginning of research, neither I not Kindred Lines will be liable for any outcome.
Payment Details
Any prices quoted and all payments made are to be in Pounds Sterling.

I will normally require a non-refundable deposit or 30% in advance, depending on the research required and subject to discussion with you.
A research contract can be cancelled at any time but any work already undertaken must be paid for in full at the time of cancellation.

I will keep you informed of any additional costs before they are incurred and you may ask for a statement of work carried out at any time. I will invoice outstanding charges and expenses on completion of the work. Full and final payment is due within 14 days of the date of the invoice. I reserve the right to withhold reports and documents until the final invoice is paid

Payment can be made by BACS transfer or via PayPal. Any cost incurred in relation to payment methods will be charges.
Unless otherwise stated or agreed, it is assumed these terms and conditions are accepted once a contract for research has been made and any deposit paid.
GDPR & Privacy
Kindred Lines complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In accordance with data protection law you have control over how you data is used and stored.
Your personal details are only used for communication between us and for the purposes of carrying out research on your behalf.
​
Once research has been finished, your report will be archived onto an external hard drive which is kept on my premises. A copy, together with your emails, will be kept on my computer. I keep the information because some clients come back at a future date for further research, but you can ask for you report and information to be deleted at any time. Please note that once data is deleted it cannot be recovered. However, where an invoice has been raised for you, I am obliged to retain contact details for you for six years to comply with HMRC rules, but after this date you can ask for your contact details to be removed.

Unless you ask for further research, we will not contact you after the final invoice is paid. Your information will not be used for marketing purposes or provided to any third parties except in the case of where another qualified genealogist was used (and agreed with you).
